He redefined Bengali literature and #music, as well as Indian art with Contextual Modernism in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was the first non-European as well as the first lyricist to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. In his literary work, Tagore focused on relationships which were colored by human shortcomings and idiosyncrasies. Tagore’s stories were progressive. Confident women were the protagonists of his stories, while cocooned in a conservative Indian society.
