This episode originally aired on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. It features a presentation by author Marina Nemat recorded at Kingston's Writers' Festival earlier this month. Nemat is the author of Prisoner of Tehran, a memoir about her experiences as a prisoner at Evin Prison during the 1979 Iranian Revolution. She was imprisoned for vocally opposing the policies of the new Islamic government that replaced the secular regime of Mohammed Reza Shah. She was forced into marriage with one of her torturers, but was able to use this connection to escape a death sentence. He was later assassinated. Nemat now resides in Canada with her family, where she shares her experiences. This is exactly the kind of unique personal perspective we hope to continue to bring to our listeners, enjoy!
