In the fifth episode of Right of Reply's fourth season, we examined the cause and consequence of the War on Drugs, drug policy in Canada and abroad, and discussed the potential for legalization of marijuana in Canada following the election of a new Liberal government. This episode features an interview with Mark Kleinman, a professor of public policy at UCLA and one of America's leading authorities on drug policy, as well as Paula Mallea, a criminal lawyer with a focus on drug crime and author of "The War on Drugs: A Failed Experiment." Both guests highlight the social harms associated with drug's prohibition, and the dangers involved in regulating drug use through the criminal system. We spoke with students at Queen's University about their thoughts on marijuana's legalization, and conclude with a discussion among members of the Right of Reply team, who provide their thoughts on current drug policies and the potential for improvement.
