Thanks to marijuana legalization in more and more states, doctors nowadays are seeing a greater number of patients who are taking cannabis medicinally, creating a greater need for insurance coverage for those physicians, according to industry expert Ian Stewart. Stewart is a partner in Wilson Elser and chair of the law firm’s cannabis law practice team, and sees a lot of opportunity for insurance professionals to serve cannabis businesses. Stewart was a speaker at the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS) conference in San Diego, Calif., in early November. He took time out at the conference to sit down with Insurance Journal and talk about the cannabis business and what insurance professionals should know about it.
