Description:

This intro was recorded in Omaha, Nebraska, in the lovely home of Thom, my friend from college, because, throughout October and November, horizontal does america. It’s me, a Honda Civic, and a backpackful of recording equipment, circling the United States. So... I wildly miscalculated both my timing and my budget. I’ll be extending the tour through November - which means more episodes for you! more horizontal photos in unexpected places, and, of course, more gasoline. Help happen it by becoming my patron on Patreon.com/horizontalwithlila. Support the horizontal arts with a monthly contribution of any amount whatsoever, from $1 on up. The rewards get more and more sumptuous! It all adds up, and I cherish every patron! If every loyal listener gave $1/month, it would be life-changing.

This tour was sponsored in part by Lucid Studios, a New York-based production company. Meticulous and passionate, they truly care about how your work affects your audience.

In this episode, I lie down with my housemate Zed. We’ve been roommates, living on the same floor at Hacienda Villa, the sex-positive intentional community, for a little over three years. He’s a sound engineer who works mainly on glorious big-budget musicals. Our inner theatre kids geek out together. Our relationship has been fraught in the past, especially during the early months of living together, which we share about in this half of the episode, but we’ve grown to love each other and turn to one another for support, like the night a few months back, when I came home in abject tears after a Circling event and he held space while I raged and cried it out. Without Zed’s generosity, this podcast would probably not exist, as, up until right before this tour, I was borrowing my sound equipment from him. To record with me was a great act of bravery on his part, and I hope you feel it, and honor him for it.

In the second half of this episode (the first half is up as 15a) I read Zed one of the hardest letters I’ve ever written. A letter I wrote to him. We also speak of Zed’s family matters, and he tells me a story I’ll call The Great Threesome Tragedy.
