In this episode, I get the opposite of vertical with Marcia B., co-founder of Cuddle Party, creator of The Good Girl Recovery Program, and co-leader of weekend intensives like “Make Hot Play Happen” and “The Wanted Man,” that teach humans to have more fun, deeper connections, and hotter sex. She’s an educator, a writer, a wild-permission giver, a generator of joy. Her website is called asking for what you want dot com! Marcia is funny and warm and lovely and clear. She is a boundary expert, and the set of 11 rules that she co-created for Cuddle Party have inspired a legion of hosts. (I read them aloud at the beginning of episode 46.) It’s amazing that I even managed to record this episode with Marcia B., considering the fact that I really really dropped the ball when I was in San Francisco. For the whole story, read “horizontal does california” and then sign up for all the missives! At least I kept my wits about me long enough to record with Marcia, and next week’s guest, the sexual folklorist Dixie de la Tour! In the first part of my conversation with Marcia (episode 46), we talked about her coming of age during the AIDS crisis, the some/many/most model of sex information, boundaries boundaries boundaries, the abnormality of “average,” saying no gracefully and, naturally… asking for what you want. In this second part, we discuss the dog/cat/bird model of play party personalities, touch deprivation, San Francisco straights, what is “queer enough,” bi-erasure, constellations, poly pods, the friendship metric, and the post-nuclear family. *** If you enjoy lying down with Marcia and I, become a patron of the horizontal arts. Patronage begins at $2 and the rewards get more sumptuous as you increase. For instance, for $10 a month, you’ll receive a monthly love poem, curated and recorded especially for my patrons, an invitation to the patrons-only Facebook group, where fascinating articles, abound, and some GPG: genuine public gratitude. Every bit of patronage goes towards my independent, uncensored, ad free homemade radio.
