Description: Armed indigenous rebels seized several towns in Chiapas, Mexico, on New Year's Day in 1994. The Zapatista National Liberation Army demanded rights and recognition for indigenous communities. The urprising, which lasted just ten days, took Mexicans totally by surprise.
