DIYFS Podcast #15 – Interview with Tyler Gough of Indy Urban Acres

Category: Education
Duration: 00:53:10
Publish Date: 2014-06-18 06:56:37
Description:

On this fine day, I got to sit down at Indy Urban Acres and helped Tyler Gough take a break for a little bit so he could tell me all about the operations out at Indy Urban Acres.

During our talk I learned about how much community support is the driving force behind Indy Urban Acres. I also learned how the Indianapolis Parks Department is supplying land and material support to the mission of providing food to Gleaners Food Bank.

We talked extensively about the school programs that are interacting at the farm and how the kids are learning leadership and business skills while also learning how to produce food.

Late in the interview there is an brief interruption and bad segue where someone that Indy Urban Acres is helping set up a community garden stopped by to pick up supplies, and we had a chance to discuss some of the ways they have helped some 30 people do the same over the last three years.

If you would like to know more about the Indy Parks Departments involvement with this project check out this website.

If you would like to get in touch with Tyler and the other farmers at Indy Urban Acres, or find out how you can volunteer here is their Facebook contact.

If you want to tell the Parks foundation what a great project this is and encourage more of this around our fine city, tell them so at this contact page or call them at 317-860-3250
