Description:

Way back, before zoom became a verb and your grandmother was tech savvy enough to set up a Google meet, we would talk about how young consumers valued experiences above consumer products.

Then a global pandemic arrived on the scene and everything changed. People wrote articles about the new normal and secretly prayed for a swift return to the OLD normal. The arrival of a vaccine provided a glimmer of hope, but that hope was dimmed thanks to low vaccination uptake rates and the rise of the Delta variant. It was an altogether depressing plot twist, to be sure. Consumers and brands alike are thinking about how they want to integrate a COVID risk assessment into their future expectations, plans and desires.

In this podcast MaryLeigh Bliss, VP of content at YPulse, provides some much needed guidance by sharing what young consumers are feeling about experiences now and what they think they will feel about them in the future.

Topics include:

  • How long young consumers are expecting Covid to continue to affect their behavior.
  • Which in-real-life experiences young consumers are most interested in resuming.
  • How young consumers feel about mask mandates.
  • Which segments of the young consumer population have leaned into virtual events and why these events are here to stay.
  • The state of FOMO, post lockdown, and why it’s relevant for people planning virtual events.
  • How brands should be thinking about incorporating experiences into their marketing efforts.

As of VP of Content, MaryLeigh Bliss oversees YPulse’s syndicated products. Her role also involves acting as a culture and youth insights expert, consulting with brands to identify actionable insights, align young consumer strategy, and layer generational and youth knowledge over data findings.

MaryLeigh has worked with a range of brands, including Facebook, Hampton, Bravo, HBO, Target, Best Buy, and Gap, and has been quoted as a youth insights authority by publications including The New York Times, Digiday, Business Insider, and Adweek. She has appeared as a Gen Z and Millennial expert on Bloomberg News, Fortune, and NPR Marketplace, and been a speaker at many off-sites and conferences. MaryLeigh’s interest in youth culture originated from her love of YA literature and pop culture anthropology, and she is continuing her passion for decoding and demystifying the next generations of consumers at YPulse.
