Today, if you say “streaming content” most consumers think “ad free with a subscription fee”. This makes sense because, according to a survey by PwC, people are spending 62% of their time on streaming subscription services and 32% of their time on ad supported ones. Consumers; however, are only going to sign up for a certain number of subscriptions and many analysts believe that in the next 3 to 5 years the ad-supported streaming ecosystem is liable to be much larger than that of subscription based streaming. All of which is good news for those players currently building services in the Free Ad-supported Streaming TV (FAST) space.
Today we’re speaking with Navdeep Saini, the co-founder & CEO at DistroScale, a leading media technology company with the industry’s most comprehensive video platform across web, apps, and connected TV. DistroScale is the parent company to DistroTV, the nation’s largest, independent FAST network, which is now home to 150 live streaming channels.
Topics discussed include:
- Why free ad supported TV represents the next evolutionary step-change of how people consume streaming content.
- The opportunity that DistroTV offers to brands and other content creators who want to grow niche content for specialty audiences.
- Why COVID didn’t throttle DistroTV’s content pipeline.
- Why ultra niche content helps DistroTV to be privacy friendly.
- How DistroTV partners with their content creating channels to secure advertising dollars.
