Description: Much of Lake Michigan’s water is clear, but in some parts of the lake you can see (and smell) algae blooms that have sprouted. The contrast is striking, and it’s also alarming to scientists concerned with the health of Lake Michigan. On this edition of UWM Today, we look at lake algae, the microscopic organisms that can be a blessing or curse to the quality of our lake. Joining us on today’s program is Harvey Bootsma, a professor in UWM’s School of Freshwater Sciences.
