Senator Harry Reid, a Nevada Democrat who was the Senate majority leader at the time, requested the funding details for the programme before details emerged, also used social media to apply more pressure. He tweeted a link to reports saying: "The truth is out there. Seriously," adding a picture of a UFO. "If anyone says they have the answers, they’re fooling themselves. "We don’t know the answers but we have plenty of evidence to support asking the questions. "This is about science and national security.
