As many commentators across the political spectrum have observed, the U.S. COVID-19 pandemic response has resulted in confusing and sometimes contradictory policies. While most western democracies have adopted pandemic policies at the national level, many major policies in the U.S. have instead been instituted at the state or local level by governors and mayors.
We will discuss both the obstacles to creating one set of clear national policies to control the pandemic in the U.S. and the life and death public health consequences.
