How We Would Fix IDPA - 81

Description:

IDPA is a shooting sport that a lot of competitive shooters have a love/hate relationship with. On one hand, many of us carry concealed, and like the idea of a competition that is focused around concealed carry. On the other hand, a lot of us have some issues with some of the rules. We start it off by talking about a couple of the things in IDPA that catch a lot of flak that neither of us have a problem with: cover, and half-second Vickers count scoring.

We then cover some of the things that we would like to see changed/allowed in the game:

  • Appendix Carry
  • Lasers
  • Red Dot Sights
  • Making a division for BUG guns
  • Removing the "baby steps" from the game
  • Elections for leadership
  • Changing CDP division to allow the other big calibers in addition to the .45ACP, and raising the power factor for the division from 165 to 190
  • Concealment - I think the IDPA fishing vest hurts the sport, and we should encourage people to shoot how they carry

The News:

It was big news when the Oklahoma state legislature passed legislation making NFA items like short barreled rifles and suppressors "shall sign" with chief law enforcement officers. Unexpectedly, the Governor of the state vetoed the bill, and then in even bigger news, the legislature (in a landslide vote) overrode the veto and passed the bill into law. As far as I know, this is the first law of it's kind in any state, and it's awesome.

Guam passes "shall issue" concealed carry this past week. On the heels of the Peruta decision in San Diego by the 9th Circuit Court, Guam apparently decided to go ahead and pass shall issue concealed carry law before they are forced to by the courts. This is big news because Guam is not a state, but rather a US territory.

Phoenix, AZ lost a court case where they refused to sell bus stop advertising spaces to a pro-gun business selling gun safety classes. This is a great win for 1st and 2nd Amendment rights!

Plug of the Week:

This week we plugged Episode 59 of the Art of Manliness Podcast. This week Bryan Black from ITS Tactical was interviewed, and I really enjoyed it. Bryan Black's blog was one of the first "tactical blogs" I started reading long ago, and it was a big motivator for starting Triangle Tactical. Go listen, you'll like.
