When Your Dream RV Becomes a Nightmare
Today’s feature story helps us define one of our goals here at Tom and Kris Camping. We don’t want to see you stuck with an RV you may no longer be able to use. We found this story at trivalleycentral.com and it’s worth your time if you are thinking about a major RV purchase.
The story features a couple who purchased their dream RV ten years ago. They bought the 31′ motor home for $105,000. With no money down, they financed the entire balance for 20 years. That was in 2004.
Now the husband is 75 years old and in poor health. The motor home is on consignment at a local RV dealership. The owners still owe $56,000 and the rig is worth a little less than $40,000. If and when it sells, they will have to make up the shortage. They will also have to pay the dealer a commission on the unit.
This wasn’t a smart buying decision. It’s a big part of why we focus on the more affordable units like truck campers. It’s also why we love tent trailers for younger families just getting into the RV lifestyle.
The Failed Coffee Concentrate Experiment
You can listen to the show for details, but our attempt at cold pressed coffee concentrate for camping sounded so good. Just add one part coffee concentrate to two parts boiling water, and enjoy. FAIL!! It was a total pain in the behind to make, and tasted average at best. Definitely overpriced, inconvenient, and nowhere near the final product of our expectations.
Glamping Airstream Style
Kris chose an Airstream experience in Florida for the glamping segment. You chose where. They bring the Airstream, set it up and show you how everything works. You can even have it set up in Disney’s campground. Follow the link to glampinghub.com for details.
Lees-ure Lite Update
We talked about Lees-ure Lite trailers in episode five. These trailers are compact and easy to tow. We were rather concerned about storage space. Dawn from Lees-ure Lite let us know that the entire bed area is storage space when you fold up the trailer. There’s room for the A/C unit, a porta-potty and all of your gear. We appreciate their response to our show.
Ecocapsule
The Ecocapsule is a concept at this point, but they claim a trailer frame is in the plans. This compact tiny home has a wind mill, a solar paneled roof and aerodynamic design. Let’s wait and see if it ever comes to be.
Classic or Griswold
This week’s Classic or Griswold segment centers an an early 70s Travco motorhome. These were built on a Dodge frame. What would you think if someone parked this in your yard for a month?
