Description:

Your first camping trip

It may be your first camping trip of the year. It could be your first trip in your new RV. Maybe it’s your first camping trip ever. Let’s make it spectacular. This episode is inspired by you.  We’ll give you our thoughts and ideas to start right.

You can count on a few things on that first trip. You’ll probably pack way too much of everything. If you have small children, you’ll probably answer a thousand questions. Although you’ve over-packed, you will find things you won’t forget again.

You’re Looking For Your First Camping Trip Win

Getting home safe and with big smiles on everyone’s faces, that’s a win. A win means you get to camp more often. A win means the family will be asking when they can go again. A win may even mean you get to upgrade your gear.

20 Year Old Goes Camping – For 27 Years

Christopher Knight was 20 when he drove his car into a remote wooded area of Maine and walked away. He left everything behind except for a tent, a backpack and few provisions. He wasn’t a survivalist or a prepper. He just preferred to be a hermit.

He resurfaced after 27 years, but not by choice. It seems living off the land was a whole lot harder than living off what he could find in the secluded vacation cabins. It’s quite a story.

Read the whole story here at TheGuardian.com to catch the details. We will give you our spin on the story.

Possums and Ticks

  • One possum eats up to 5,000 ticks a year.
  • Doesn’t carry Lyme disease
  • Eats rodents and road kill
  • Immune to rabies

Why do we bring this up? It looks like 2017 will be a record year for ticks and Lyme disease. Full details in this article from AARP. It’s a must read if you live or camp in tick country.

Paper Bag Bacon And Eggs

This looks like fun. Kris and I will definitely be giving this one a try. Your family can cook their own eggs and bacon over the campfire, then eat it out of the bag. Be sure to have enough for one or two kids to start over should the bag start on fire. Place the bag on a plate for eating, not your lap. The bacon grease will leave a stain.

We also have a few choice picks for our Bad Ads segment. When you see one of these, please send it to us. We will do our best to use it on the show.
