Description: Women’s intuition? Is it just a myth? And if it is just a commonly held misconception – should we be more understanding? I interview Dr. Scott Lilienfeld, a Professor of Psychology at Emory University in Atlanta on this and much more! Professor Lilienfeld is a Fellow of the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, a Consulting Editor for Skeptical Inquirer and the Founder and Editor of the CSI journal Scientific Review of Mental Health Practice. His principal areas of research include evidence-based practices in psychology and the challenges posed by pseudoscience to clinical psychology. His latest book, 50 Great Myths of Popular Psychology: Shattering Widespread Misconceptions About Human Behavior, co-written with Steven Jay Lynn, John Ruscio and the late Barry Beyerstein. Earlier this year he lectured on ‘Blink or Think? A Skeptic’s Guide to the Pros and Cons of Commonsense Intuition‘, which involved critical evaluations of recent popular claims that intuitions, gut hunches, and “common sense” are useful guides for evaluating the natural world and for distinguishing scientific from pseudoscientific claims. Additionally mentioned in this episode is the bookstore ‘Embiggen Books‘, which is an Australian supplier of excellent pro-science and skeptical books! http://embiggenbooks.com. I also recommend you check out the interview conducted by Point of Inquiry’s Dr Karen Stollznow. The official site for Token Skeptic is at www.tokenskeptic.org.
