Token Skeptic #85 - On Something Fierce - Interview With Marian Call

Category: Science & Medicine

Publish Date: 2011-11-06 22:15:00
Description: “The music is a little silly but mostly very sincere and honest, mostly acoustic, occasionally symphonic, eclectic, rhythmic and warm with a side of whimsy.” Singer-songwriter Marian Call has just finished her “49>50 Tour”, which went all around the US (and most of the provinces of Canada). She lives in Anchorage, Alaska but has a huge following around the world for her complex harmonies and witty lyrics, which include references to Firefly, Battlestar Galactica and being a geek (even if it’s not going to always be chic). Something Fierce and it is a fan-funded album as well as being a double album – volume I is called ‘Good Luck With That’ and volume II is called ‘From Alaska.’ For this interview we discuss her music, how fabulous her fans are – and just how many instruments does she play (besides the typewriter)? The songs used in this episode - "The Nerd Anthem (I'll Still Be A Geek After Nobody Thinks It's Chic)", "Dear Mr Darcy", "Temporal Dominos", "It's Good To Have Jayne On Your Side", "Perilous Road", "Good Morning Moon" and "Vanilla (I'm Not Sexy)".  The Token Skeptic Blog – now on FreeThought Blogs at http://freethoughtblogs.com/tokenskeptic. This show is available on Zune, mp3 via Libsyn or iTunes. Visit www.tokenskeptic.org – and I’d love to get your feedback at tokenskeptic@gmail.com. Theme songs are “P&P” by Derek K Miller of www.penmachine.com and “Leap Second” by Milton Mermikides, of  www.miltonmermikides.bandcamp.com. Please considering supporting the show via visiting Tokenskeptic.
