When Susan Fowler released her astonishing memo lifting the lid on sexual harassment at Uber, which eventually led to the departure of CEO Travis Kalinick, Sarah Lacy was not surprised in the least.
The founder of tech publication Pando was one of the ride-hailing firm's first, and most vocal, critics – and, in 2014, became the subject of an alleged smear campaign, when an Uber executive threatened her at a dinner party.
Now Lacy has described that experience in a new book, [link url="http://www.wired.co.uk/article/sarah-lacy-gender-bias-silicon-valley"]A Uterus is a Feature, Not a Bug[/link]. Part memoir, part guide to “overthrowing the patriarchy,” it relates her struggles with sexism – and suggests a way out of the morass (tl;dr: hire more women).
This conversation was recorded at [link url="http://www.wired.co.uk/event/wired-live"]WIRED Live[/link], when Sarah spoke to commissioning editor Oliver Franklin-Wallis. |
