UW-La Crosse is in need of a new head football coach.
The university announced on Monday that Matt Janus is leaving to take over as head football coach at Division II Northern Michigan University in Marquette.
He finishes his career with a 45-14 overall record and 29-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in his time at UWL.
His winning percentage of .763 is second in school history behind legendary coach Roger Harring.
The team finished 8-3 this season and made it to the third round of the NCAA Division 3 playoffs where they lost to North Central, who eventually lost to national champion UW-River Falls on Sunday night.
Janus led the Eagles to the playoffs each of his five seasons.
In 2023, he was named the WIAC Coach of the Year and D3football.com Region Coach of the Year for taking the team to a11-2 overall and 7-0 WIAC record.
The university said it will begin a search for a new head coach as soon as possible. |
