Description:

The Green Bay Packers got exactly what they wanted for Christmas.

Thanks to Minnesota taking out Detroit 23-10 on Thursday, the Packers clinched a playoff berth, their sixth in seven seasons under coach Matt LaFleur. The Lions, who were among the Super Bowl favorites coming into the year, were eliminated from playoff contention.

Despite already punching their ticket to the postseason, the Packers still do have something to play for in the final two weeks of the season. Though unlikely, Green Bay can catch Chicago in the battle for the NFC North. The Packers would need to win their final two games — vs Baltimore (7-8) on Saturday and at Minnesota (8-8) in Week 18 — and the Bears would need to lose their last two games — at San Francisco (11-4) on Sunday night and at home against Detroit (8-8) in the regular-season finale. The winner of the division would be the No. 2 or the No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs, while the second-place team would likely be the No. 7 seed.

The Packers will be making their 38th appearance in the playoffs, including their 19th since 2000. That’s tied with New England for the most in the NFL.
