Description:

They’re calling it the greatest play in UW-River Falls football history — the catch and touchdown run that sent the Falcons to the NCAA championship.

Tie game with 45 seconds to go, and Blake Rohrer snagged quarterback Kaleb Blaha’s pass out of nowhere, and sprinted 79 yards for the touchdown to give No. 3 UW-RF a 48-41 win over seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins in the Division III semifinals Saturday.

Rohrer finished with 236 yards and three scores. Blaha, was 30 of 48 for a UW-RF (13-1) single-game record 520 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for a score.

The Falcons will now face reigning national champions, No. 1 North Central (14-0), at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, in Canton, Ohio.

Earlier this season, UW-RF beat then-No. 9-ranked UW-La Crosse 41-7 — the Eagles playing without their starting quarterback. In the playoffs, UW-L lost to North Central in the third round of the playoffs, 35-27 — the Eagles scoring a touchdown with no time left on the clock.

North Central has been the consensus No. 1 ranked team all season. It has been to five consecutive Division III national championships — winning three, including two of the past three.
