In Sikhism, there is no distinction between women in private or public spaces, personal or corporate relationships. Women have the freedom to lead in any capacity they choose, as there are no predefined roles for them. However, despite these principles, we often observe disparities between theory and practice. This discrepancy can be attributed to the influence of cultural factors and personal biases, which are perpetuated by the broader hegemonic culture.
These issues are not inherent to Sikhism, where women should be neither restricted nor disempowered in leadership positions. Instead, they stem from cultural and personal biases that hinder the necessary empowerment for both men and women, regardless of gender identity.
