How criminal can a 10-year-old be?

Category: News & Politics
Duration: 00:19:40
Publish Date: 2020-07-29 13:00:00
Description: It's still possible to be arrested and charged with a crime at the age of 10 in Australia. There's been a sustained campaign to raise the age of criminal responsibility to 14, in line with the average across Europe, but Australian political leaders want to see more evidence and more options first. Today on the Signal we ask what it's like to be a kid in prison. How did the law come to be this way? And what does the science have to say about how children think at that age? Featured: Dr Mick Creati, Paediatrician and Senior Fellow at the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Professor Chris Cuneen, Criminologist, University of Technology Sydney Keenan Mundine, Co-founder, Deadly Connections
