How China forgot a massacre

Category: News & Politics
Duration: 00:20:08
Publish Date: 2019-06-03 13:00:00
Description: It's been thirty years since the Chinese Government massacred hundreds, if not thousands of its own citizens, who were demanding democracy in Tiananmen Square, but the topic is still totally off limits in China. The Government there has never given a full account of what happened on June 4 1989, and comprehensive censorship stops the story getting out. So how much have people actually forgotten in the last three decades, and how much do they just pretend to forget in order to survive? Today's episode is all about the tactics of suppressing a massacre. Does it work, and can it last? We also hear first hand from the photographer who captured the 'Tank Man' photo which crystalised the world's memory of the event.
