Rush hour at Everest

Category: News & Politics
Duration: 00:14:37

Description: The highest peak in the world is getting pretty crowded and the way people climb Mount Everest has changed too. You might have seen that photo circulating on social media featuring a queue of climbers  going up the mountain in long daisy chains. It’s very slow and the higher you go, the more dangerous it is to stay there for long periods, so climbing Everest is riskier now than ever before. Eleven tourists have died so far this year. An Australian man is recovering in a Kathmandu hospital after he was discovered unconscious on the side of the Tibetan side of the mountain. So what kind of people are in that high altitude traffic jam? And if the world has loved Everest to death, are there any frontiers left to conquer? Featuring: Simon Balderstone, Chairman Australia Himalayan Foundation Joe Bonington, fitness trainer and mountaineer
