SHOW NOTES
KEY IDEAS:
I am biased, but I believe that one of the greatest things about the FFA is the concept of the "supervised agricultural experience" or SAE. When it comes to entrepreneurship it is wonderful, and there are not many other places a high school student can go to get encouragement and mentoring to start their own business.
Because I talk about SAE's so much, I get a lot of feedback from instructors and students about them. Inspiring students to get interested in an SAE can be difficult. Convincing students to start businesses can be a challenge. And giving students real world examples of students who have succeeded with their SAE's can be almost insurmountable.
The good people at the University Of Mount Olive, Lois G. Britt Agribusiness Center have decided to do something about that. This July they held their first ever "SAE Camp" designed to teach students and teachers about SAE's, show them what resources were available to them and give them examples of what has been done in other parts of the country.
I was fortunate enough to have my SAE Workbook used as one of the resources for both the instructors and students. And, I was invited to come present to instructors and students about entrepreneurship and marketing.
I interviewed four students while I was there, and I decided to start the series with this episode featuring the Director of the Lois G Britt Agribusiness Center, Dr. Sandy Maddox, as well as the Assistant Director, Edward Olive.
I held the interviews until school started so FFA advisors would have the best chance of hearing about this SAE Camp.
