SHOW NOTES
KEY IDEAS:
Today's interview is extremely interesting for a number of reasons. Our guest, Monica Wagner, was referred to us by long time listener, former guest and great friend - Garoleen Wilson. Monica lives in Smith Center, Kansas which is the geographical center of the lower 48.
In addition to those two tidbits, Monica lives on a farm with her husband where they raise cattle. He wanted a hand held, plasma cutter and convinced her that it would be a good investment. This led Monica to start creating artwork out of old farm materials, and her business, Monica's Menagerie, was born. Now, she cannot keep up with demand, and really does not market her business because of this.
Also, Monica has a degree in elementary education. However, the high school chapter in Smith Center did not have an FFA advisor, and they were going to shut down the program......until Monica agreed to teach ag for them. This was supposed to be temporary, but one thing led to another and now Monica is the full-time ag teacher in Smith Center.
ADVICE FROM MONICA:
BELIEVE: Monica says that you have to believe in yourself to be successful. Nobody else will believe in you if you don't. So make sure that you have faith in your own abilities.
PROMOTE: You are going to have to promote yourself, which sounds easier than it is. Find a good place to do this. If it is in the arts and crafts world, make sure it is in a spot that has high traffic and the customers you are looking for.
PERSONAL HABIT THAT HELPS MONICA SUCCEED:
WHAT'S NEXT: Monica is always thinking about what is coming next. When she gets one piece done, she is ready to make the next one because it has been on her mind.
