SHOW NOTES
INTRODUCING GRACIE DANNER!
One of the fun things about doing this show is knowing what is going on in agriculture right now! I don't get to know everything, but I get to see trends emerge in real time, not two years later in a peer reviewed paper that was written by a researcher.
One such trend is young people working with their parents in their livestock businesses and taking their marketing to a new level. Today's guest, Gracie Danner, is one of many students I have interviewed on the show who is introducing social media into her family's business plan.
Gracie is doing this and is also using another interesting marketing method for her family's cattle and farming business. She and her father publish a newsletter and send it out to all of their stakeholders. It is "old school meets new school" with this method, and I wanted to highlight it here. Gracie's father leases a lot of ground to grow their crops on. It is important to let all of the landlords know what has been going on with their land. They accomplish this through the newsletter. In addition, they write about more general agricultural issues, and they keep everyone up to date on what Gracie and her brother are doing for the human interest side of things. I really like this approach.

Support FFA
Donate to FFA - One way that FFA students are able to start small businesses is through an FFA grant of $1,000. In 2014, 141 FFA students received these grants. With your donations, more students can get this head start - pay it forward.
REASONS TO DONATE TO FFA:
Only 2% of Americans grow and raise most of the food and livestock consumed by the other 98% as well as the rest of the world. FFA is providing the needed education, training and resources to Americans that will carry that torch forward and insure that America continues to have inexpensive, quality food.
Rural Communities will rely on entrepreneurship in the future for population growth and job creation. The FFA is a major catalyst to that entrepreneurial growth.
Farmers, ranchers and those working in agriculture give the rest of America incredible amounts of freedom because the search for food is as simple as going to the grocery store:
"Because American farmers are able to provide for so many of us, they give more and more of us the freedom to pursue goals and livelihoods beyond growing the food we need to survive."
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack
