Description: SHOW NOTES KEY IDEAS:  A recent political controversy was just too much for me to take, and I decided to do an episode about it.  A professor at Fresno State University recently had some horrible things to say after former First Lady, Barbara Bush, died.  This created a significant controversy and caused people to look into this professor further. As a result of these statements it was discovered that she had said disparaging things about the very farmers that support the agricultural programs at Fresno State University.  After learning about all of this, many farmers who support the agricultural programs decided to withhold the donations they had been giving to the university if the university did nothing to discipline this professor. As a result of this an agriculture professor at Fresno State University came out and stated that these farmers were hurting ag students by withdrawing support and it was not warranted.  Since that time the university has publicly announced that the professor would not be disciplined, and that it was her freedom of speech to make the statement that she did. When I saw this I was struck with the irony of her not being disciplined because her freedom of speech was being protected.  However, the farmers expressing their freedom of speech through their financial contributions or lack thereof are told that they are doing something bad by expressing theirs.  I also saw it as ironic that these farmers were being accused of hurting ag students by expressing their freedom of speech while nobody was talking about how farmers were being hurt by an agricultural college that has staff members openly disparaging their way of life. Today's episode is all about this.  Where are farmers to turn?  Is California a microcosm of what is going to happen to agriculture throughout the rest of the country?  We will see.
