KEY IDEAS:
After 455 episodes, I thought I had heard all of the reasons for starting a business. However, I had not run across this one before. Our guest today, Scott Campbell, loves to fish. As a matter of fact, he did so professionally for many years on the Bering Sea on his own crab boat. He was a featured member of "Deadliest Catch" and saw lots of action out on the ocean.
After Scott was forced to retire due to a back injury he found himself fishing with some friends in a Mastercraft boat that he had purchased. He was constantly complaining about the ice chest that came with the boat and that was designed to fit under the seat. His friends challenged him - "stop complaining and build a better cooler, I bet you can't".
Well Scott is not the type to go back on his word or back down from a challenge. And at that moment, unbeknown to anyone on that boat, including Scott, the Cordova Cooler Company was born.
Scott went about designing a better cooler and then making prototypes all the way up to the point of meeting with executives at Master Craft and getting them to adopt his cooler as the standard cooler on all Master Craft Boats. Cordova Coolers has grown from there and now is being sold all over the United States in various sizes.

RE-ANALYZE: Just when you think you have the best idea, take another look at it and make sure.
TENACIOUS: To make it you will have to be tenacious. Scott has endured multiple setbacks and failures all the way along. He is still going.
FIX: Fix problems for other people. The more you help other people, the more success you will find.
