SHOW NOTES
INTRODUCING DANIEL MCDONALD!
I don’t have strict rules for the length of my podcasts. I let the conversations take me where they take me, and if that means that an episode goes on for hours, then that is fine. With that said, I have come to notice a pattern. FFA episodes normally take 20-25 minutes, Friday episodes 45-50 minutes, etc.
In today’s FFA interview I speak with our guest, Daniel McDonald, for almost an hour. There were simply so many rabbit holes to go down in this interview that I could not help myself. I wanted to explore each and every one of them.
Daniel and his family farm in North Carolina under the name “McDonald’s Brothers Farms”. Just the discussion about how farming gets done on the other side of the country was fascinating enough for me to ask about for hours. We talk about swamps, snakes and alligators. If that were not enough we get into Daniel’s families hobby of competing in tractor pulls. Something that Daniel is excelling in himself.
Daniel is done with high school now and studying field crops and technology at the Agriculture Institute at North Carolina State University. He has also been the recipient of two state proficiency awards – 1st place in ag mechanics and 2nd place in diversified crops. And, he is seeing a ton of success as a rookie driver in tractor pulls with 4 championships to his name.
This is a fascinating interview, and I am very proud to bring it to you today!

Donate to FFA – One way that FFA students are able to start small businesses is through an FFA grant of $1,000. In 2014, 141 FFA students received these grants. With your donations, more students can get this head start – pay it forward.
REASONS TO DONATE TO FFA:
- Only 2% of Americans grow and raise most of the food and livestock consumed by the other 98% as well as the rest of the world. FFA is providing the needed education, training and resources to Americans that will carry that torch forward and insure that America continues to have inexpensive, quality food.
- Rural Communities will rely on entrepreneurship in the future for population growth and job creation. The FFA is a major catalyst to that entrepreneurial growth.
- Farmers, ranchers and those working in agriculture give the rest of America incredible amounts of freedom because the search for food is as simple as going to the grocery store:
“The future of American agriculture depends on the involvement and investment in America’s youth, In order to prepare for the population of tomorrow, we need to encourage America’s youth today, and show that careers in agriculture are profitable, rewarding, and vital.”.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue
