INTRODUCING JAXEN ARMS!

This past December three FFA students in Barren County, Kentucky served their community heroically.  Jaxen Arms, along with Mason Penington and Jonathon London, both fellow FFA members, and Jaxen’s mother were driving to his house for a sleepover.  As they approached a neighbor’s farm they saw smoke and flame and realized that his cow barn was on fire.

Nobody was around, so Jaxen and the other boys jumped out of the car and charged into the barn.  As they entered there was lots of smoke, lots of heat and rafters and embers falling from the roof.  The cattle were calm, but they had a frightened look in their eyes.

Jaxen was able to remove all of the cattle and get them into a different barn that was away from the risk of fire.  The boys were also able to get tractors away from the barn and stock trailers out of the barn, saving the farmer a considerable loss.  While they were doing this, Jaxen’s mother was calling “911”.  As a result of this the fire department was able to arrive in enough time to stop the attached office with important records and paperwork inside from burning up.

Jaxen is extremely humble about what he did, and he doesn’t think it was anything out of the ordinary.  These three young men are great examples of neighbors, community members and, of course, FFA students!

Donate to FFA – One way that FFA students are able to start small businesses is through an FFA grant of $1,000.  In 2014, 141 FFA students received these grants.  With your donations, more students can get this head start – pay it forward.

REASONS TO DONATE TO FFA:

  • Only 2% of Americans grow and raise most of the food and livestock consumed by the other 98% as well as the rest of the world.  FFA is providing the needed education, training and resources to Americans that will carry that torch forward and insure that America continues to have inexpensive, quality food.
  • Rural Communities will rely on entrepreneurship in the future for population growth and job creation.  The FFA is a major catalyst to that entrepreneurial growth.
  • Farmers, ranchers and those working in agriculture give the rest of America incredible amounts of freedom because the search for food is as simple as going to the grocery store:

“The future of American agriculture depends on the involvement and investment in America’s youth, In order to prepare for the population of tomorrow, we need to encourage America’s youth today, and show that careers in agriculture are profitable, rewarding, and vital.”.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue
