SHOW NOTES
INTRODUCING ALAYNA AZEVEDO!
In producing the Off-Farm Income Podcast, I am lucky that so many other people take interest in the accomplishments of FFA students. Frequently this helps me to find great guests to profile on this show from the media releases of other people.
Today’s guest, Alayna Azevedo, is one of these students. After receiving an award from her local Rotary Club in Escalon, California I saw an article about her. That was how she came to be a guest on the show. As we started the interview I found out that Alayna lives in my former hometown of Valley Home, California which is just a few miles from Escalon. That was a happy coincidence.
Alayna, with the help of her brother, got started bottle feeding goat kids. This has developed into a small business for her. It is no surprise she has done so well with this. Her level of commitment is second to none. Alayna told me that she has even had kids sleep in crates in her bedroom so that she could get up with them in the middle of the night for a feeding.
As a junior in high school Alayna is already serving as a chapter officer and a section officer. She is a very good public speaker, and practices her speeches with her friends while away from school. She has big goals for her time in the FFA and after high school. And we believe she will reach all of them.

Donate to FFA – One way that FFA students are able to start small businesses is through an FFA grant of $1,000. In 2014, 141 FFA students received these grants. With your donations, more students can get this head start – pay it forward.
REASONS TO DONATE TO FFA:
- Only 2% of Americans grow and raise most of the food and livestock consumed by the other 98% as well as the rest of the world. FFA is providing the needed education, training and resources to Americans that will carry that torch forward and insure that America continues to have inexpensive, quality food.
- Rural Communities will rely on entrepreneurship in the future for population growth and job creation. The FFA is a major catalyst to that entrepreneurial growth.
- Farmers, ranchers and those working in agriculture give the rest of America incredible amounts of freedom because the search for food is as simple as going to the grocery store:
“The future of American agriculture depends on the involvement and investment in America’s youth, In order to prepare for the population of tomorrow, we need to encourage America’s youth today, and show that careers in agriculture are profitable, rewarding, and vital.”.
U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue
