KEY IDEAS:
Today we get to launch right into our new format when it comes to Friday episodes. I am going to speaking with a young man named Josh Dowell who currently lives and works in Sacramento, California. Josh initially requested to connect with me through LinkedIn, being very proactive on his part. And to illustrate the power of using a site like this, and using it correctly Josh is now a featured guest on our show.
The way this interview came about was that I was using LinkedIn to look for people in a specific type of industry. As I was scrolling through my list of contacts I saw Josh’s tag line. This had changed recently, and it now caught my eye. It said that he was “discovering the nexus of agriculture, government, and entrepreneurship”.
His tag line really intrigued me, especially since it had the word entrepreneurship in it. We connected, and it turned out that at the age of 24 he already has had a very interesting journey in agriculture. He also has a lot of hope for the future of agriculture in California as well as for the state as a whole.
One of the more interesting concepts that we uncovered during the interview, and something that needs to be explored more, is the method in which he wants to go about achieving his dream of having a large scale dairy in the San Joaquin Valley of California. Josh’s method is to go out into industry and create the capital for an outright purchase first as opposed to the method of getting into farming on a smaller scale to begin and working his way up to the level that he wants to achieve. We had an interesting discussion about these two ways of accomplishing this goal.
