KEY IDEAS: 

I have talked about the power of LinkedIn on various episodes before.  Today I get to demonstrate it.  I first became connected with today’s guest, Austin Black, through LinkedIn.  He had requested the connection as our path’s were so similar.  The way in which he connected with me caused me to take a look at his profile, and I discovered that he had his own agricultural business.  Of course, this piqued my curiosity, and I reached out for an interview.

Austin has been working with or raising his own cattle since he was 2 years old.  This led him to eventually get a degree in animal science as well as agricultural business.  He worked in the cattle industry for some time, but he had always known that he wanted to be an entrepreneur.  Eventually, Austin went to work for himself shooting video and photographs of livestock for livestock sales.  He is also developing another side of his business telling the stories of brands through videography.

Austin and his wife have a 1 year old daughter, and they raise cattle in Missouri.  There is a lot of vision for the future there, and Austin has a unique talent for shooting video as demonstrated by the example above.  In today’s episode he tell tell us all about his journey.

ADVICE FROM AUSTIN:

RELATIONSHIPS:  Develop good relationships with your potential customers first.  The business will follow.

FREE: Don’t be afraid to work for free.  If you cannot get your foot in the door with a paid project, get in with a free one.

OPPORTUNITY: Opportunity will come as a result of hard work.  Keep moving forward and putting in the time.  What you are looking for will show up.

BEST ADVICE AUSTIN HAS RECEIVED:

Care about the person that you are serving.

PERSONAL HABIT:

Austin never gives up.  He likes to see a project through to the end, and this is something that has served im well.

BOOK RECOMMENDATION:

Austin has read a lot of books to help him succeed in business, and the one that he adamantly recommends is Profit First: Transform Your Business from a Cash-Eating Monster to a Money-Making Machine.  I am definitely checking this one out for myself.
