INTRODUCING ANDREW STREFF!

Goal setting is a kind of art form, and our guest today illustrates that perfectly.  Andrew Streff is a national star finalist in the category of agricultural placement.  Working on his families farm and at other locations in his area, he has compiled quite a record of employment and accomplishments.

I asked Andrew when he had developed the goal of becoming a national star award winner, and he told me that he had done so during his freshman year of high school.  He knew it was a high goal, and he knew that the odds were against him, but that was what he wanted.

In just a couple of weeks Andrew will find himself standing on the stage at the national convention with three other finalists.  He has a 25% chance of being the name that is called and becoming a national award winner.

I talked with Andrew about what this meant.  Ultimately, he wants to win that prize.  However, there is a chance that one of the other finalists might be selected.  Andrew reflected on that, and as we talked about it we discussed everything that he has accomplished by striving for this award.

Even if Andrew is not named the national star, he has accomplished a lot in trying to get there.  That is the secret to goal setting that is so often overlooked.  If you reach all of your goals, you are probably not setting them high enough.  But if you do set them high enough and don’t reach all of them, you will still accomplish awesome things along the way.

REASONS TO DONATE TO FFA:

  • Only 2% of Americans grow and raise most of the food and livestock consumed by the other 98% as well as the rest of the world.  FFA is providing the needed education, training and resources to Americans that will carry that torch forward and insure that America continues to have inexpensive, quality food.
  • Rural Communities will rely on entrepreneurship in the future for population growth and job creation.  The FFA is a major catalyst to that entrepreneurial growth.
  • Farmers, ranchers and those working in agriculture give the rest of America incredible amounts of freedom because the search for food is as simple as going to the grocery store:

“The future of American agriculture depends on the involvement and investment in America’s youth, In order to prepare for the population of tomorrow, we need to encourage America’s youth today, and show that careers in agriculture are profitable, rewarding, and vital.”.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue
