Today we get a special look at how agricultural businesses got built in the 1970’s.  Today we talk a lot about direct marketing, using social media and even podcasting.  But in the 1970’s none of that was available for folks.

So, you had to be more creative in how to get in front of potential customers, and you relied on word of mouth much more than you do today.  Brian Worten, the creator of Berryhill Development, will join us today to talk about beginning his company.  He will discuss the opportunity that he and his brother saw with a specialized piece of equipment, and some of the unbelievable ways they found some pretty high profile customers.

ADVICE FROM BRIAN:

START SMALL: Build up slowly.  Don’t get overburdened with debt.

BUY USED EQUIPMENT: Don’t spend all of your money on a shiny piece of equipment.  Be willing to start with used.

KNOW HOW TO FIX: Learn how to do your own mechanical work because paying people to fix your stuff will take all of your money

Brian talked about being told to manage his employees both for their job tasks as well as their own well being.
