Tuesday Episode
It is time for another county fair wrap up episode. This year I get to do it on my Tuesday edition.
The County Fair:
We have been lucky enough to participate in our county fair since Hattie was just 8 years old. She has shown pygmy goats, when she was a Cloverbud, and sheep ever since. It is always a worthwhile experience for us as we get to put everything aside for five days and focus on our daughter, agriculture and good people. We spend a lot of time with other 4H parents, and it is great to get closer to those folks as well.
This year Hattie’s lamb did not make weight. There were a lot of factors that led to that, but the bottom line is that it did not need to happen. We had some options. Some parents in the group offered to give her some money to make up for the fact that she was ineligible to sell her lamb.
After so many interview with FFA kids whose parents and other relatives make them work for the rent on pasture, crop land, inputs, equipment, etc., etc. we opted for the life lesson. So, we turned down the offer and let the sting of not selling her lamb and taking it home with us sink in. I am hoping that experiencing this small life lesson, early in life, will eventually lead to her avoiding bigger mistakes later in life.
So, we can find value from experiences like 4H in a lot of different places. This year we find value in the life lessons that it offers to us.
Thank you all for tuning in and enjoy the episode!
