Tuesday Episode
Well, I was experiencing “Podcaster’s Block” today, if you can believe that is a thing. Then Autumm suggested that I do an episode about all the different personalities on the farm. What a great idea! So, I did it. As a tribute to the brainstorming of Autumm, I put a picture of her beautiful flower garden up as the featured image of this episode today.
Here’s a quick list of the different species and personalities on the farm…
Cattle:
“Freckle Face” – Definitely the leader of the herd and a great mother. She helps me get the rest of the herd from our front pastures to our back every time I move them. And, she loves to kick her heels up when it is time to move to new grass.
“My Girlfriend” – When she had her first calf I had to pull it with calf pullers. So for the first week I had to milk her everyday and tube her calf every day. We got to be good friends that week, and to this day she always comes up and says hello to me.
“White Face” – this is a pretty generic name for a Hereford cow, but it’s all I’ve got. If I scratch her on her hip, she will react just like a dog when you find that exact right place to scratch…
“Simon” – This little calf can get out of any level of hot wire and does all the time….this has led to lot’s of breakouts from our sacrifice area….he started out in the world with scours, but we were able to save him.
Goats:
We have every aspect of goats…from fence jumpers to one that gets its head caught in the fence two or three times per day to this Lamancha that can leap like a deer and was just given to us to two bottle fed babies that are always under feet and won’t allow you to get anything done!
Pigs:
We have had two pigs that really stood out:
“Pinky” – the only pig we have ever had that would roll over and beg you to scratch its belly. Even at 275 lbs right before he was slaughtered….
“Lula” – the angriest and most athletic pig I have ever seen. We never have any pigs jump out of the pen. But when we were trying to castrate one of her pigs, she leaped two fences and almost ate me.
Chickens:
“Einstein” – Hattie aptly named this rooster. He has wild feathers going everywhere, which is right on the money for his name. Ironically he is probably the dumbest chicken we have, which makes his name “Einstein” even more fun.
“Red” – This young lady likes to hang out in our backyard. She just stands around with the humans…just one of the folks and involved in the conversations…
Thank you all for tuning in and enjoy the episode!
