Tuesday Episode
I get to start off today’s episode with another listener email. I am always pumped to do this, and he starts off with “thank you from a fellow farmer”. How cool is that?
I also want to know if you use pink eye vaccine for your cattle, and does it work? I am going to do some bragging about my daughter, talk about the work at my place that pulls me away from the farm and some stories from a historical rodeo located about 25 miles from my place.
Pink Eye Vaccine:
Are any of you using this? We treated our fifth calf with pink eye today. It’s not a huge deal as we know what we are doing and we get them healed up. But, I would rather not have our cattle go through this or need treatment.
I have never used the vaccine for this, but I am strongly considering try it. Have you used it? If you have, would you mind contacting me and letting me know what your results were at matt@offincome.com?
Proud Dad:
Ever since she started 4H, Hattie has been participating in a “rangeland competition” with other 4H groups in Idaho. With a lot of hard work from the mom’s of the kids participating they have seen continued success, year after year.
This year was especially great as Hattie and her group won first over all, and first for their oral presentations. Individually, Hattie won second for animal identification and first for plant identification. I am blow away by this since I had to identify plants in college and was horrible at it!
4H has been such a great growing and learning experience for her, and I know that FFA will be too. I know that she is on the right track and learning such valuable information and skills through participating in this great youth organization.
Work That Doesn’t Involve The Farm:
Well, no matter what we farm or how committed we are to farming, we all have to live somewhere. Occasionally that structure needs some work, and that pulls you away from the farm. This last weekend I devoted all of my time after feeding and irrigating to home improvement.
I have been wanting to put some attic vents and a whole house fan in my place ever since we bought it. We had great attic ventilation at our last house, and I put in a whole house fan there. It made a world of difference.
In our current house the upstairs gets really warm in the summer. And even when the evening air cools off and we open up the windows it really does not cool down that well. So, I decided it was time to fix that. Now our attic will be venting much better, all day long. And in the evening the outside air temperature falls below the temperature of the upstairs I can kick on the fan, pull in that outside air and push out the hot air from the upstairs as well as the attic. I am very excited about this as I hate to run the air conditioner.
The Caldwell Night Rodeo:
I recently recorded interviews for the D&B Supply Show about a very historic rodeo we have right in my back yard called the Caldwell Night Rodeo. I learned some great history of cowboys and cowgirls in our area from way back in the early 20th Century. I also learned the reason behind the motto “where the cowboys are the stars”.
I think you would all really like this episode, and I hope you will check it out when it is released on July 27th. I know that is way out, so just subscribe to the show on either iTunes or Soundcloud, and you will be sure to not miss it. It will be worth it, I promise! |
