SHOW NOTES

INTRODUCING EMMA HARGROVE!

Our guest today is the 2019 Alabama Proficiency winner in agricultural mechanics.  Emma Hargrove has been fixing up old tractors with her father for some time now and either selling them or entering them in shows.  She has been learning every aspect of this process from a complete rebuilds of engines to the cosmetic work to make the tractors shine.

So far Emma and her father have completed three tractor projects.  The most special of the three was a tractor that had been in her family for some time, and they were able to bring it back to life.  When Emma and her dad are out driving through the countryside if they find an old tractor rusting in a field, they will see if they can buy it at a price that makes sense for another project.

All of this has led Emma to help organize one of the biggest antique equipment shows in all of Alabama.  Emma is now deeply involved in the Piney Chapel Antique Equipment Show that culminates with a large parade of old equipment, including their restored tractors.

With all of this under her belt already, Emma is just finishing her sophomore year of high school. She was just elected as her chapter’s treasurer and is looking forward to serving in that role as a high school junior.

Donate to FFA – One way that FFA students are able to start small businesses is through an FFA grant of $1,000.  In 2014, 141 FFA students received these grants.  With your donations, more students can get this head start – pay it forward.

REASONS TO DONATE TO FFA:

  • Only 2% of Americans grow and raise most of the food and livestock consumed by the other 98% as well as the rest of the world.  FFA is providing the needed education, training and resources to Americans that will carry that torch forward and insure that America continues to have inexpensive, quality food.
  • Rural Communities will rely on entrepreneurship in the future for population growth and job creation.  The FFA is a major catalyst to that entrepreneurial growth.
  • Farmers, ranchers and those working in agriculture give the rest of America incredible amounts of freedom because the search for food is as simple as going to the grocery store:

“The future of American agriculture depends on the involvement and investment in America’s youth, In order to prepare for the population of tomorrow, we need to encourage America’s youth today, and show that careers in agriculture are profitable, rewarding, and vital.”.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, Sonny Perdue
