SHOW NOTES
KEY IDEAS:
I admire people who see the world differently and then make a change for the better. Our guest today, Ty Gosvener, is just this type of person. Ty is a lifelong cowboy, and he purposefully lives his life and makes his living this way.
Along the way Ty noticed that cowboys and cowgirls using nylon ropes in competition and working in the industry were throwing them away when they wore out. Ty didn't like this because he saw them either getting buried in landfills or just being burnt up. So, his inquisitive mind wondered if he could recycle these nylon ropes. He started pulling them apart and seeing what he could make with them.
Ty's business, Ty's Custom Whips, was actually born when he was about four years old. His father would not buy him a whip, but Ty wanted one. So, he started taking curtain cord and teaching himself how to braid together rope and make his own. So, it was natural for Ty to take the recycled nylon rope and re-braid it into a whip.
All of the sudden Ty realized that he had made a high quality, user friendly and lighter weight whip that someone his size could use all day without getting tired out. It turned out that a product like the one that he had produced was needed in the industry, and he started to get recognized for what he had made.
Today, Ty has shipped his whips all over the world, built a great reputation as a cowboy and gets to live the lifestyle that he was determined to have.
ADVICE FROM TY:
DON'T: Don't ever give up on your dreams! Ty never has, and believes that if you dream about it, you can make it a reality....as long as you don't give up.
BELIEVE: You had better believe in yourself and your idea because nobody else is going to, at least until you succeed.
QUOTE FROM TY:
"If you can dream it, I can build it". Ty gets requests from customers all the time for speciality whips with special handles. He has a "can do" attitude about making them.
PERSONAL HABIT:
I didn't even have to ask Ty this question. The answer was obvious. Ty eats, sleeps and lives the cowboy lifestyle. So, in his idle time, his hands are busy making whips, taking apart ropes or even making arrowheads.
