Description: Protective headgear for amateur boxers are once again under the spotlight as a man fights for his life in Christchurch.
Kain Parsons was critically injured during a Fight For Christchurch charity event at Horncastle Arena last night after being punched in the head during his fight.
Parsons was not wearing protective headgear.
However, Sky Sport Boxing Commentator Mike Angrove told the Weekend Collective at the amateur level, boxers are no safer while wearing headgear than without it.
"It's long been proven that headgear prevents cuts and abrasions, it doesn't prevent concussion."
