Paul exhorts Titus to go after the Cretan sins because soundness in the faith must include a rebuke on societal sins and repentance. Alas, this is all but missing in churches that are strong on a narrow band of piety and externalisms. Pastors worth their salt must go after the sins of the day, the foundational worldview issues, critical race theory, economic sins, abortifacients, and the utter apostasy of the public school. Why do they avoid worthwhile controversies, while tripping over less-important matters? There is a tie-in between national and personal sins, national apostasy and the apostasy that creeps up into the families in our churches.
