It
was the explosive moment of the season for The Bachelorette, when a
professing Christian, Luke P. suggested that promiscuous sexuality
might be bad. The whole entertainment world slipped into a
coma for a few hours. But then, another professing Christian, The
Bachelorette herself told everybody that she can do “whatever,”
and Jesus still loves her, and forgives her. This
introduces a conversation on the “Jesus Loves Me This I Know, So
I’ll Keep on Rolling with the Flow” worldview. Does Jesus’s
washing constitute only “forgiveness?” What does it
mean, when we read that all fornicators go to hell, and no homosexual
will inherit the kingdom of God? Is it possible to have forgiveness
without new life, and faith without repentance?
