The
accused in the San Diego synagogue shootings was a member of a
reformed presbyterian church, and his father an elder in the
congregation, according to reports. The question Christianity Today
asks is, “Who is to blame?” We tackle the nature vs. nurture
question again, but caution against weighing too heavily on the
social/environmental causes. We take a look at the Bowe Bergdahl,
Paul Hill, and John T. Earnest stories, and draw in Scriptural
explanations and warn against the secular attacks on church teaching
and the slippery, sweeping generalizations about “provocative”
language.
