There are trials in life … and then there are super-trials, ones that leave us wondering, “How could I ever endure that? Would it collapse my faith in God?”
A super-trial could be defined as a tragedy or obstacle so severe compared with the legitimately difficult trials that most everyone experiences in life. For example, divorce after a few years of marriage is hard enough, but what about a husband divorcing his wife after 25 years of marriage, leaving her to care for four teenage children alone, including one with special needs?
Or what about the parents who receive news that their beloved pre-teen daughter was abducted on the way home from school only to never hear from her again?
Or what about a young mother having four separate cancer diagnoses within ten years, beginning with stage four ovarian cancer?
How would you handle these kinds of trials? Is it possible to endure without becoming bitter or full of anxiety? How does one rest in God and His Word?... |
