Is Amazon Bad for the Postal Service?

Category: News & Politics
Duration:
Publish Date: 2018-04-05 10:31:45
Description:

Jordan Weissmann, Slate's chief economics writer, and Devin Leonard, Bloomberg Businessweek writer and the author of Neither Snow nor Rain: A History of the United States Postal Service (Grove Press, 2017), discuss President Trump's tweet which claimed that Amazon is exploiting the U.S. Postal Service.

@devinleonard says USPS competitors say the postal service is under-charging Amazon, but they have an interest in that; they'd like Amazon business shifted back to them.

@JHWeissmann says he finds it unlikely that Congress is going to move on USPS shipping rates (that'll make shipping more expensive for everyone). But re: sales tax -- Amazon doesn't necessarily collect on 3rd party marketplace sales. Could see Congress stepping in to change this.
