Description: About 380,000 infants in the United States—about one in 10— are born prematurely each year. Preterm births, defined as any birth before 37 weeks of pregnancy, is the leading cause of death for infants and puts these babies at greater risk for cerebral palsy, respiratory and cardiovascular complications, and delays in development. Sera Prognostics has developed a predictive diagnostic that can identify pregnant woman at risk of delivering prematurely, allowing for interventions. We spoke to Greg Critchfield, CEO of Sera Prognostics, about the test, how it works, and what it take to get doctors to adopt the test and payers to reimburse for it.
